This striking 5” x 3.75” x 1” specimen of Rainbow Obsidian weighs 12 ounces and was hand-dug from the remote Warner Mountains of Northern California—free from motorized equipment and carefully extracted to preserve its natural integrity. Formed by ancient lava flows, this rare volcanic glass conceals a radiant secret: bands of iridescent color that reveal themselves under the right light.

How to Reveal the Sheen:
At first glance, Rainbow Obsidian appears jet black. But when lit correctly, it displays stunning bands of color:
• Direct Sunlight: Rotate and tilt for full-spectrum visibility.
• LED Floodlight (daylight-rated, 1080 lumens): Cool-toned light enhances the rainbow effect.
• Water or polish will further boost vibrancy and contrast.

Lapidary & Display Tips:
To maximize visual impact:
• Cut parallel to visible flow bands for vibrant slabs.
• Cab across bands for “eyeball” patterns with curved polish.
• Angled cuts can still reveal color but may require specific lighting/viewing angles.

Please Note:
• You will receive the exact specimen shown. Photos were taken wet and under LED lighting to highlight potential.
• Obsidian is naturally sharp—handle with care.
• Due to variability in lighting, returns are not accepted for inability to reveal colors shown in photos.

Why This Piece Matters:
Mining for Rainbow Obsidian in the Warner Mountains is increasingly restricted due to environmental protections. This makes each hand-extracted specimen not just a collector’s piece—but a vanishing treasure of North American geology.
